Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 305 AM EST Thu Jan 23 2020 Valid 00Z Fri Jan 24 2020 - 00Z Fri Jan 31 2020 Lighter and variable trades will continue as a front approaches from the northwest Friday. This front is forecast to stall over or near Kauai and maybe Oahu into Saturday. Models/ensembles generally show precipitable water values around an inch or less but perhaps with a brief rise over the Big Island Friday associated with a separate wave of moisture. This may enhance some rainfall on the east side of the Big Island per the hi-res models. Otherwise, PW values around 1.25 inches could be realized near the front which would support at least isolated modest amounts around Kauai until the front lifts northward and dissipates next week. Then, generally light windward/mauka showers can be expected as trades try to re-establish from the east and perhaps ESE but likely remain weak. Another front should approach the area but remain just northwest of the area by next Thursday. Fracasso
