Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 118 AM EST Fri Jan 31 2020 Valid 00Z Sat Feb 01 2020 - 00Z Sat Feb 08 2020 A cold front stalled over the western Hawaiian islands on Friday will continue to bring some enhancement to showers across the islands, particularly for windward locations. The cold front should wash out by Saturday, but an upper low sliding northeast of the state will continue the increased showery activity through the weekend. Normal trade winds should resume this weekend as surface high pressure builds well to the north and northeast of Hawaii and persist into the first half of the week, slowly shifting southeastward ahead of the next system. By mid to late next week, there is good consensus in the latest model runs that another upper trough will likely amplify northwest of Hawaii, driving a cold front across the islands next Wednesday-Thursday. Both the GFS and ECMWF indicate moisture to increase ahead of the front, resulting in scattered to widespread showers accompany the frontal passage. Santorelli
