Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 250 AM EST Thu Feb 13 2020 Valid 00Z Fri Feb 14 2020 - 00Z Fri Feb 21 2020 As the upper low that has been affecting the state in recent days continues to depart to the southwest, expect an extended period of trades and primarily windward/mountain-focused showers to last through at least next Thursday. High pressure over the eastern Pacific and a surface trough to the west of the main islands will likely support moderate to brisk trades from the east-southeast into the weekend. Winds should turn more easterly late weekend into early next week as the trough weakens. Then during Tue-Thu high pressure tracking over the east-central Pacific may support somewhat stronger trades from the east-northeast. A band of enhanced deep moisture crossing the area from east to west on Thu-Fri could increase rainfall amounts somewhat, followed by a drier trend as precipitable water values drop to around one inch for most of next week. Recent model trends showing the upper ridge initially northwest of the area drifting close to or over the state may also serve to limit shower activity during the early-mid week time frame. Rausch
