Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 254 AM EST Fri Feb 14 2020 Valid 00Z Sat Feb 15 2020 - 00Z Sat Feb 22 2020 Satellite loops show that a main upper low that has been affecting the state in recent days now spins to the southwest of the islands. Observations and blended water vapor imagery shows an associated plume of deeper moisture is still feeding northward into the state and fueling some showers, but a favored composite of model and ensemble guidance shows this band will shift westward to offshore the islands by the weekend. Expect an extended period of trades and primarily windward/mountain-focused showers will last well into next week, albeit in a drier pattern with reduced moisture availability. High pressure over the eastern Pacific and a surface trough to the west of the main islands will support moderate to brisk trades from the east-southeast into the weekend. Winds should turn more easterly into early next week as the trough weakens. High pressure bridging to the north of the state mid-later next week may reinforce trades from the east-northeast. Schichtel
