Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 313 AM EDT Thu Mar 26 2020 Valid 00Z Fri Mar 27 2020 - 00Z Fri Apr 03 2020 Models and ensembles reasonably agree overall that brisk trades persist in a tight pressure gradient underneath strong high pressure to the north of the state. A relatively dry airmass suggests that daily windward/mountain-focused showers should remain limited in the short term. Rainfall potential will increase Friday through the weekend as a favored guidance composite decreases heights aloft as an upper ridge to the north of the state weakens in response to digging trough energies. Lower atmospheric inverted troughing will develop over the state as high pressure shifts more into the eastern Pacific and as upper trough and possible closed low energies settle over Hawaii and increase instability. Trades should tend to veer and tap deeper moisture to fuel widespread showers/thunderstorms that may linger into at least early next week, especially across the eastern islands. Schichtel
