Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 348 AM EDT Fri Apr 17 2020 Valid 00Z Sat Apr 18 2020 - 00Z Sat Apr 25 2020 Guidance agrees that the pattern during the next week should support only light shower activity, with varying degrees of upper ridging over the region and precipitable water values tending to be around or somewhat below climatological values. Surface high pressure north of the state will support moderate trades late this week into the weekend. Eastward progression of this high will lead to a lighter trend for low level winds by late weekend into next week, with corresponding potential for more land/sea breeze focus for showers. Meanwhile a front approaching from the northwest will likely stall northwest of the main islands but still be close enough to help disrupt the trades. Most guidance expects the front to retreat for a time around midweek and then drift back to the southeast late in the week due to upstream dynamics aloft. There is a little spread for frontal position by next Fri but good consensus that associated moisture should remain northwest of the main islands. Rausch
