Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 338 AM EDT Thu Apr 23 2020 Valid 00Z Fri Apr 24 2020 - 00Z Fri May 01 2020 Expect typical trade wind conditions over the next seven days with generally windward/mountain shower focus. Most rainfall should be fairly light given precipitable water values within a standard deviation of normal, tending to be lower over the southeastern islands relative to the northwestern islands. A front initially just to the northwest should linger there into the weekend before weakening/moving westward. Moderate to brisk trades late this week into the weekend may slacken a bit for a time early next week as a front temporarily weakens the surface ridge to the north of the state. This front may reach close to the islands by next Wednesday-Thursday while trailing high pressure returns the trade flow close to prior strength. Guidance spread for this front is fairly modest for the 6-7 day time frame. Aloft there are noticeable differences for the eastward expansion of upper ridging toward/over the state from Monday onward. The 12Z ECMWF mean shows a good intermediate solution between the faster 00Z ECMWF/CMC and slower GFS/GEFS mean. Rausch
