Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 338 AM EDT Sat Aug 01 2020 Valid 00Z Sun Aug 02 2020 - 00Z Sun Aug 09 2020 Guidance continues to show a trend to fairly strong trades for most of next week into the weekend after a front briefly weakens high pressure north of the islands this weekend. Expect showers to focus over windward/mountain areas but some rain could occasionally stray into leeward locations. In terms of moisture the models and ensemble means are now closer together early in the week as the ensemble means have trended to the operational runs which have been showing an area of moisture passing far enough south of the state to have minimal influence on the Big Island and vicinity. Guidance is similar and fairly consistent with an area of enhanced moisture, with precipitable water values reaching/exceeding 1.50 inches, overspreading the islands mid-late week. This moisture and one or more impulses aloft may increase rainfall over some areas. Most solutions currently suggest the eastern side of the moisture shield should reach the state next weekend. Rausch
