Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 245 AM EDT Tue Aug 25 2020 Valid 00Z Wed Aug 26 2020 - 00Z Wed Sep 02 2020 Models/ensembles show consensus that an upper-level ridge should expand across Hawaii over the next several days, while a strong surface high builds across the North Pacific, centered well north/northeast of Hawaii. The result will be moderate trades, while a relatively dry air mass (PWs near or just below 1 inch) advects across the state. Showers will be rather sparse in this pattern, and primarily confined to windward locations. A tropical wave is shown in relatively well-clustered model/ensemble guidance passing south of Hawaii next weekend. At this time, it looks to remain far enough south that the only effects on Hawaii would be a tightening of the pressure gradient, and a period of rather gusty trades. Models/ensembles showed some minor differences with the strength of the upper-level ridge, but overall, no major differences were noted, and a general model blend is preferred. Ryan
