Upper ridging will remain over the region through the weekend,
focused to the northwest and northeast of the area. With deeper
moisture confined to near the ITCZ, expect modest trades (at times
a bit breezier as surface high pressure moves by) and light to
moderate windward/mauka showers, enhanced just a bit as pockets of
higher moisture move through. A trough will dig north of the area
by early next week, but its surface cold front should still be
several hundred miles northwest of Kauai by 00Z next Tue. Tropical
depression Seventeen-E is forecast to move westward this week into
next week, but should remain east of 150W. The 00Z ECMWF was quite
fast with this system, well ahead of the GFS/Canadian and
ensembles.
