Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 221 AM EST Mon Nov 9 2020 Valid 00Z Tue Nov 10 2020 - 00Z Tue Nov 17 2020 The closed upper low that has developed near 175W, along with its associated inverted surface trough, is forecast to slowly drift westward and away from Hawaii over the next few days. The col in the upper ridge is expected to fill in as the ridge axis expands and the surface high to the north of the state builds. There may be a weak upper trough that tracks just south of the Islands by the end of the week and into the weekend, and perhaps another break in the ridge by the end of the forecast period. In terms of sensible weather, the building high north of the state will tend to increase the Trades with windy conditions at times for the beginning to middle of the week, with a slight backing of the winds from ESE to ENE expected. Mainly terrain induced showers can be expected for much of the forecast period, with a better chance for more enhanced rainfall by the weekend owing to the upper trough approaching. It appears that the heaviest rainfall should remain south of the Big Island based on the latest model projections. Hamrick
