Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 319 AM EST Tue Nov 10 2020 Valid 00Z Wed Nov 11 2020 - 00Z Wed Nov 18 2020 The closed upper west of Hawaii is forecast to slowly drift westward and away from the state over the next few days. The upper ridge is expected to fill in as the ridge axis expands and the surface high to the north of the state builds. There may be a weak upper trough that tracks just south of the Islands by the end of the week and into the weekend, with a col developing in the ridge axis by the end of the forecast period. In terms of sensible weather, the building high north of the state will tend to keep the Trades strong with breezy to windy conditions through the middle of this week, with a slight backing of the winds from ESE to ENE expected. Mainly terrain induced showers can be expected for much of the forecast period, with a better chance for more enhanced rainfall by the weekend owing to the upper trough approaching. It appears that the heaviest rainfall should remain south of the Big Island based on the latest model projections. Hamrick
