Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 250 AM EST Mon Nov 16 2020 Valid 00Z Tue Nov 17 2020 - 00Z Tue Nov 24 2020 Guidance agrees upon trades persisting through the period, supported by a series of surface highs to the north of the state. Trades will likely strengthen over the course of the week and peak during the weekend when high pressure to the north is strongest and the gradient over the state is the tightest. Wind speeds should trend down a bit next Mon as the high weakens slightly. The mean flow will favor a windward emphasis for showers though some rain may stray to other locales at times. Some enhancement of rainfall will be possible through midweek as a compact upper low meanders near the western islands with precipitable water values near or above 1.50 inches. As was the case for the early-mid week forecast previously, yesterday's guidance spread for Thursday has been resolved by the ECMWF trending more toward the GFS idea of taking longer for the area of greater deep moisture over the state to get pushed westward/southwestward as the upper low weakens/departs. After midweek precipitable water values should be influenced by pockets of greater or lesser moisture carried along in the trades. Rausch
