Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 AM EST Tue Dec 29 2020 Valid 00Z Wed Dec 30 2020 - 00Z Wed Jan 6 2021 The weather pattern over Hawaii and adjacent marine areas is expected to be relatively benign over the upcoming week. A rapidly developing surface low over the North Pacific for the middle of the week will lead to a cold front approaching, and then stalling near the northwestern Islands through Thursday before gradually dissipating. The resulting col in the surface ridge will lead to lighter trades through Thursday, before increasing some for Friday and into the upcoming weekend as the surface ridge near 30 degrees north builds back in. Both the GEFS and EC means are in good overall synoptic scale agreement through the medium range period across this domain, and both indicate a weak upper level trough that will likely be situated east of the Big Island by Friday and early Saturday, followed by upper level ridging over the region by early next week. With the exception of the typical windward showers, no major episodes of significant rainfall are anticipated at this time. Hamrick
