Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 119 AM EST Thu Dec 31 2020 Valid 00Z Fri Jan 1 2021 - 00Z Fri Jan 8 2021 The weather pattern over Hawaii and adjacent marine areas is expected to be relatively benign over the upcoming week, with light to moderate trades expected. Both the GEFS and EC means are in good overall synoptic scale agreement through early Wednesday, and then the EC mean is indicating more of a col in the surface high near 30 degrees north owing to a stronger frontal boundary approaching. Both indicate a weak upper level trough that will likely be situated east of the Big Island by Friday and into Saturday, followed by upper level ridging over the region by early next week. With the exception of the typical windward showers, no major episodes of significant rainfall are anticipated at this time. However, there may be some enhanced northerly swells from the strong low pressure systems over the North Pacific. Hamrick
