Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 217 AM EST Tue Feb 02 2021 Valid 00Z Wed Feb 03 2021 - 00Z Wed Feb 10 2021 Models and ensembles reasonably agree that trades will weaken and trend more southeasterly as a well defined cold front approaches from the west. The front and supporting/amplified upper troughing will reach the islands midweek, accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall/thunderstorms. Precipitable water pooling on the front may reach 1.5". The front and enhanced instability/moisture/precipitation will work progressively through the islands leading into a drier period later week and over the weekend. However, expect some lingering showers over the Big Island in proximity to the slow to dislodge main upper low/trough. Upstream system approach from the west early next week could favor modest moisture/shower return. Schichtel
