Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 240 AM EST Sat Feb 20 2021 Valid 00Z Sun Feb 21 2021 - 00Z Sun Feb 28 2021 The weak upper level low that has been in place near the western Islands is expected to slowly dissipate this weekend. By the beginning of the week, the ensemble means are supporting the development of an inverted trough near 170W, and a strong surface high centered to the northeast of the state. Moderate to breezy easterly trade winds can also expected across the region for much the upcoming week owing to the tighter pressure gradient, with mainly trade-wind based showers for windward and mountainous areas. Another cold front looks to approach the region from the West by later in the period, but models at this point keep the heaviest rainfall well west of Hawaii at least through next week. Hamrick
