Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 328 AM EST Sun Feb 21 2021 Valid 00Z Mon Feb 22 2021 - 00Z Mon Mar 1 2021 The weak upper level low that was in place near the western Islands has weakened. By the beginning of the week, the ensemble means are supporting the development of an inverted surface trough near 170W, and a strong surface high centered to the northeast of the state. Moderate to breezy easterly trade winds can also expected across the region for much the upcoming week owing to the tighter pressure gradient, with mainly trade-wind based showers for windward and mountainous areas. Enhanced surf can also be expected for east-facing beaches. Another cold front looks to approach the region from the West by later in the period, but models at this point keep the heaviest rainfall well west of Hawaii at least through Friday. However, a weak disturbance may affect the eastern Islands by next weekend and this may increase shower coverage. Hamrick
