Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 246 AM EST Tue Mar 02 2021 Valid 00Z Wed Mar 03 2021 - 00Z Wed Mar 10 2021 Models and ensembles continue to show similar ideas in the forecast through the next seven days. With some day to day variation, trades will be fairly strong through the period as one surface high well to the northwest of the state is replaced by a second high around Saturday, with the latter high ultimately tracking to the north and northeast of the area. Windward/mountain-focused showers (occasionally extending into other areas) should be on the lighter side through Thursday as precipitable water values remain below climatology. From Friday into the weekend the combination of a surface front and shortwave energy aloft settling over the region from the north should lead to higher rainfall totals. Although the upper trough gradually fills early next week, most guidance is suggesting a further increase of moisture from the south or southeast. This would favor some rainfall enhancement over the eastern islands at that time. Rausch
