Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 333 AM EDT Sat Mar 27 2021 Valid 00Z Sun Mar 28 2021 - 00Z Sun Apr 04 2021 The col that currently exists in the subtropical ridge north of Hawaii will gradually dissipate through this weekend, as the surface low to the north weakens and the surface high builds back in across the mid-latitudes. The ensemble means suggests a new inverted trough develops near 170 degrees west by Monday, and potentially evolves into an upper low near 30 degrees north by mid-week. A more typical trade wind pattern should prevail after this weekend with showers mainly confined to windward regions, and continue through much of next week. Easterly flow of 15-25 mph with higher gusts will be likely, with the greatest coverage of showers across the windward terrain of the Big Island. The heavy rainfall associated with the developing trough mentioned earlier should remain well west of the state. Hamrick
