Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 343 AM EDT Sun Mar 28 2021 Valid 00Z Mon Mar 29 2021 - 00Z Mon Apr 5 2021 A large surface high over the mid-latitudes of the central Pacific this weekend will move eastward, and the ensemble means suggests a new inverted trough develops near 170 degrees west by Monday as a col develops within the surface ridge axis. This is in response to an upper low situated near 30 degrees north that remains nearly anchored in place through much of the week. A more typical trade wind pattern should prevail after this weekend with showers mainly confined to windward regions, and continue through much of next week. Easterly flow of 15-25 mph with higher gusts will be likely, with the greatest coverage of showers across the windward terrain of the Big Island. The heavy rainfall associated with the developing trough mentioned earlier should remain well west of the state. Hamrick
