Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 213 AM EDT Tue Mar 30 2021 Valid 00Z Wed Mar 31 2021 - 00Z Wed Apr 7 2021 The upper low and accompanying surface low situated near 30N/170W Tuesday morning is forecast to continue slowly drifting westward and away from Hawaii through Friday, with the associated rainfall remaining well west of the northwestern Islands. The large surface high that will initially be north of that disturbance will slowly move eastward along 40N and be north of the state this weekend. Aloft, a pattern almost resembling an omega block will likely be in place across the North Pacific through early next week, with a trough axis situated well to the northeast of the state. In terms of sensible weather, a typical trade wind pattern should prevail for much of the forecast period. Easterly flow of 15-25 mph with higher gusts will be likely through Thursday, and then backing slightly to the east-northeast beyond that as the strong surface high builds in to the north, and the trades perhaps becoming slightly stronger. The greatest coverage of showers are expected across the windward terrain of the Big Island. Hamrick
