Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 329 AM EDT Wed Mar 31 2021 Valid 00Z Thu Apr 1 2021 - 00Z Thu Apr 8 2021 A large mid-latitude surface high will be north of the state and move eastward along 45N through Sunday before settling some to the south. Aloft, a pattern almost resembling an omega block will likely be in place across the North Pacific through the weekend, with a trough axis situated well to the northeast of the state. In terms of sensible weather, a typical trade wind pattern should prevail for much of the forecast period. Easterly flow of 15-25 mph with higher gusts will be likely through Thursday, and then backing slightly to the east-northeast beyond that as the strong surface high builds in to the north, and the trades perhaps becoming slightly stronger. The greatest coverage of showers are expected across the windward terrain of the Big Island, and some heavier showers are possible by early next weekend with a slight increase in lower tropospheric moisture.
