Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 AM EDT Fri Apr 02 2021 Valid 00Z Sat Apr 03 2021 - 00Z Sat Apr 10 2021 Guidance agrees with most aspects of the forecast over the next seven days. A front dropping into the area by this weekend should provide some shower enhancement. After the weekend expect the persistent pattern of northwesterly flow aloft, with the state in the southwestern periphery of mean troughing and a ridge to the northwest, to favor precipitable water values below climatology and fairly light rainfall. Trades will trend stronger from the weekend into early next week as central/east-central Pacific high pressure builds southward. Then winds should stabilize at brisk to strong levels for a time before possibly relaxing somewhat during the latter half of the week. The trade flow will tend to favor windward/mountain focus for precipitation with some moisture occasionally straying to other locations. One guidance comparison of note is that the GFS/GEFS mean stray westward of most other solutions with major Pacific features by late next week. Favoring a tilt more toward the ECMWF/ECMWF mean would yield trades with a bit more of an easterly component than the GFS/GEFS mean. Rausch
