Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 332 AM EDT Sun Apr 04 2021 Valid 00Z Mon Apr 05 2021 - 00Z Mon Apr 12 2021 Latest models and ensembles depict a fairly agreeable and consistent evolution over the next seven days. The best focus for windward/mountain (and occasionally leeward) showers will be at the start of the period with a band of relatively higher moisture lingering over especially the southern portion of the main islands. Flow between an upper low to the northeast of the state and a ridge to the west will promote a drier trend after Monday, with precipitable water values reaching 1-2 standard deviations below normal for multiple days. Expect moisture to rebound gradually late week into next weekend as the collapse of the upper ridge will allow shortwave energy to drop toward the area from the northwest. It remains to be seen whether any increase of rainfall will be as minimal as depicted by current models. Trades will be strongest early in the week when a mid-latitude surface high extends its influence farthest southward. The pressure gradient will slowly relax with time from midweek onward, promoting a lighter trend for winds during the latter half of the forecast period. Rausch
