Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 306 AM EDT Sat May 1 2021 Valid 00Z Sun May 2 2021 - 00Z Sun May 9 2021 A fairly typical trade wind pattern should be in place across the Hawaii domain through early next week with a surface high anchored well to the northeast of the Islands. The ensemble means are indicating the development of an inverted surface trough over the western Islands by Tuesday in response to a building upper level trough near 170 degrees west, with the GEFS mean showing a stronger trough than the EC mean. This should eventually evolve into a closed low that would drift slowly eastward through the end of the week. In terms of rainfall, both the ECMWF and GFS keep the heaviest rainfall associated with the trough/closed low west of the Islands, although rain chances do increase for the northwestern Islands. Elsewhere, typical trade wind enhanced showers can be expected for the upcoming week. Hamrick
