Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 334 AM EDT Sat Jun 12 2021 Valid 00Z Sun Jun 13 2021 - 00Z Sun Jun 20 2021 Guidance agrees that high pressure initially to the north-northwest of the state will move eastward over the coming days and settle over the East Pacific from about midweek onward. This high will maintain moderate trades most of the time with this background flow supporting generally windward and mountain focus for rainfall while other areas could see an occasional shower as well. Models/means still show below normal precipitable water values continuing into the start of next week. Moisture/rainfall along a weakening front should get close to the northwestern islands around next Tuesday-Wednesday. The 00Z GFS differs from other models/means in bringing this band of moisture somewhat farther southward. Another pocket of moisture may move into/across the state from the east or southeast after midweek, with a gradual lowering of precipitable water values from east to west by next Saturday. The combination of added moisture along with the upper pattern over the state changing from a ridge to a weakness/possible low should lead to an increasing trend for rainfall coverage and amounts after Monday.
