The latest models and ensembles show good agreement that a
retrograding upper level low and associated surface trough will
swing through mainly north of Hawaii Sunday into Monday. This
feature will act to dampen the trade wind flow regime early next
week. By mid-week, after its passage, the typical trade wind flow
will increase for the state. This flow supports a drier pattern
but precipitation chances will be favored during the daytime sea
breezes across windward terrain areas. By the end of the forecast
period next Friday, a weakening Hurricane Linda should still be
well east of the Big Island, with the main thing being elevated
surf for east facing beaches.
