Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 835 AM EDT Mon Aug 16 2021 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 17 2021 - 00Z Tue Aug 24 2021 The upper level low that is currently situated northeast of Hawaii is expected to continue tracking westward near 30 degrees north through the end of the week, and then should weaken by the weekend. Farther east, Hurricane Linda will be tracking westward over the upcoming week, and the eventual remnants of that storm may approach the Big Island by Sunday based on latest model projections, albeit in a much weaker form. The subtropical high is expected to remain well to the northeast around 45 degrees north, with the greatest pressure gradient and strongest surface winds likely remaining north of the state during most of this forecast period. The trades should be slightly stronger for the second half of the work week, but not particularly noteworthy. In terms of precipitation, a mostly dry pattern can be expected with terrain enhanced showers for the usual windward locations. Hamrick
