Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 437 AM EDT Wed Aug 18 2021 Valid 00Z Thu Aug 19 2021 - 00Z Thu Aug 26 2021 The upper level low currently situated north of Hawaii is expected to track gradually westward near 30 degrees north through the end of the week and slowly weaken, having little effect on the state. Meanwhile, the core of the surface high is expected to reside between 40-45 degrees north, with the strongest trades and pressure gradient likely north of the Islands. Hurricane Linda in the eastern Pacific is forecast to track west-northwest over the next several days and gradually weaken over cooler waters as it approaches to the northeast of the Big Island on Sunday. Some of the latest model projections take Linda very close to the western portions of the island chain by Monday albeit in a much weaker form. The latest run of the ECMWF brings rainfall from this system near the northwestern Islands early next week, while the GFS keeps the moisture farther north with less overall impact. Hamrick
