Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 305 AM EDT Thu Aug 19 2021 Valid 00Z Fri Aug 20 2021 - 00Z Fri Aug 27 2021 The upper level low currently situated northwest of Hawaii is expected to gradually weaken over the next few days, having little effect on the state. Meanwhile, the core of the surface high is expected to reside between 40-45 degrees north through the weekend, with the strongest trades and pressure gradient likely north of the Islands. The ridge axis should be closer to 35 degrees north by early to middle portion of next week, and this will tend to increase the trades some. Hurricane Linda in the eastern Pacific is forecast to track west-northwest over the next several days and gradually weaken over cooler waters as it approaches the Islands on Sunday. The official track takes the storm a couple hundred miles north of the state as it weakens to a tropical depression. The latest runs of the ECMWF and GFS brings rainfall from this system near the northwestern Islands early next week. Hamrick
