Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 349 AM EDT Sun Aug 22 2021 Valid 00Z Mon Aug 23 2021 - 00Z Mon Aug 30 2021 ...Remnants of Linda to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds through Monday night... After meaningful trends seen in the recent past, guidance over the past day appears to have stabilized in most respects for Linda's remnant low center that should track over the central islands Sunday-Monday. Abundant deep moisture accompanying the feature will bring a threat for heavy rainfall over the state, with a Flash Flood Watch in effect through very early Tuesday. A lingering question mark for the rainfall forecast will be how much if any convection flares up as the system passes through. Areas to the north of the low track will also see potential for strong winds. Expect a fairly typical trade regime to become established after Linda's remnants depart to the west, with primarily windward-focused showers. Heights aloft will decline somewhat mid-late week as an upper low travels northeast of the area but guidance continues to show precipitable water values around or at times even a little more than one standard deviation below normal. Thus most rainfall should be on the lighter side. A small upper ridge to the west may build closer to the islands during the weekend. Trades may weaken gradually through late week as mid-latitude high pressure retreats northeastward. Guidance suggests the high could extend a little farther southwest during the weekend and raise wind speeds a bit as a result. Rausch
