Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 358 AM EDT Mon Aug 23 2021 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 24 2021 - 00Z Tue Aug 31 2021 ...Remnants of Linda to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds through Monday night... The latest forecast continues to show the low pressure center associated with former Tropical Cyclone Linda tracking through the central islands on Monday. Abundant deep moisture will accompany the feature, with thunderstorms possible given persistence of convection on the north side of the low in satellite imagery thus far. The threat for heavy rainfall over the state has a Flash Flood Watch remaining in effect through very early Tuesday. Strong winds will also be likely with this system. The expected low track would give the northwestern islands the highest potential for heaviest rain and strongest winds. The state will see a return to typical trade flow from Tuesday onward as Linda's remnants depart to the west. Winds should decrease gradually during mid-late week as mid-latitude high pressure retreats northeastward, followed by some oscillation in strength during Saturday-Monday. Although an upper low will track a ways to the northeast of the state and settle to the north, generally windward-focused showers should be on the lighter side with precipitable water values tending to be near and at times more than one standard deviation below normal.
