Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 325 AM EDT Wed Sep 08 2021 Valid 00Z Thu Sep 09 2021 - 00Z Thu Sep 16 2021 Near to below normal mid-level heights are favored over the region for about the next week, downstream of a strong upper high near the Dateline. The upper low that was near the islands a few days ago will drift toward 30N/145W today before pausing, feeling the affect of a trough to its north. With no real movement in the upstream upper high, part of this old upper low may reinvigorate and head back westward in some fashion by the middle of next week, perhaps with a new source of moisture. Though the models have shown lower than average heights for next week there were only a couple solutions that brought back westward any defined feature. However, it looks to still be east of the area even by next Wednesday. Though then, modest trades will support generally light to perhaps moderate windward and mauka showers as precipitable water values waver near 1.25 inches into the weekend. Depending on the evolution of the upper low to the northeast, a bit more moisture could work into the area. Model consensus seems reasonable for the next seven days as the deepest moisture stays around 15N along the active ITCZ. Fracasso
