Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 236 AM EST Wed Dec 08 2021 Valid 00Z Thu Dec 09 2021 - 00Z Thu Dec 16 2021 Hawaii's weather is beginning to quiet down after a kona low caused rainfall totals of over a foot and widespread flooding impacts across the state. Some additional showers are possible through Tuesday night for Kauai as the moisture plume lingers, but overall the heaviest rainfall is over. As the kona low shifts westward, high pressure will establish itself to the north of Hawaii, drying out the pattern and leading to a more typical trade wind pattern. This will mean breezy easterly winds and the possibility of scattered windward and mountain showers, but no widespread rainfall expected. By around Monday-Wednesday, model guidance (including the latest GFS and ECMWF runs and the EC ensemble mean) show the possibility of a weak cold front slowly passing through the state. This could lead to a temporary period of slightly enhanced moisture in the front's vicinity, but at this time does not appear to significantly enhance rainfall activity. Tate
