Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 232 AM EST Thu Dec 09 2021 Valid 00Z Fri Dec 10 2021 - 00Z Fri Dec 17 2021 Quieter weather is expected across Hawaii through the weekend into next week, after a kona low that has now shifted westward away from the state caused rainfall totals of over a foot and widespread flooding impacts. High pressure is establishing itself to the north of Hawaii, drying out the pattern and leading to a more typical trade wind pattern. This will mean moderate to breezy easterly winds and the possibility of scattered windward and mountain showers, but no widespread rainfall expected. By approximately Tuesday of next week, model guidance (including the latest GFS and ECMWF runs and the EC ensemble mean) shows a weak cold front slowly passing through the state. This could lead to a temporary period of slightly enhanced moisture in the front's vicinity, which may increase shower activity somewhat. Breezy winds are possible behind the cold front. Tate
