Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 243 AM EST Thu Jan 6 2022 Valid 00Z Fri Jan 7 2022 - 00Z Fri Jan 14 2022 Light and variable winds can be expected across Hawaii through most of the upcoming week, owing to the lack of a strong surface high nearby and a weaker than normal pressure gradient with a col in the subtropical ridge. A cold front approaches the northwestern Islands from the northwest by Friday night, and the models tend to stall the boundary and then washes out before reaching the state. In terms of rainfall potential, a mainly dry pattern can be expected for most areas with some sea breeze induced showers at times. A slightly better chance for rain exists by early next week as low level moisture increases from the south, with PWs rising to near 1.5 inches with a weak inverted trough axis from the ITCZ. Hamrick
