Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 324 AM EST Sat Jan 08 2022 Valid 00Z Sun Jan 09 2022 - 00Z Sun Jan 16 2022 Generally light winds are expected over Hawaii over the next several days, driven by land and sea breezes underneath mean light northerly flow, as typical trade winds do not set up given westerly flow aloft and the lack of a strong surface high to the north. This pattern could bring localized showers to favored sea breeze areas, but overall conditions should be mostly dry over the next few days without much available moisture. A front currently approaching the western islands is forecast to dissipate as it passes over parts of the state, which could locally increase cloud cover and moisture, but not cause much rainfall given the broad ridging aloft. Another front next week could again drive somewhat more clouds and moisture to develop around Monday-Tuesday, behind which dewpoints should temporarily dry out somewhat, and then yet another front may approach around Wednesday-Thursday. But the best chance for increasing moisture and widespread rainfall is not until next weekend. Tate
