Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 230 AM EST Fri Jan 28 2022 Valid 00Z Sat Jan 29 2022 - 00Z Sat Feb 05 2022 A cold front weakening north of Hawaii will keep winds light and variable today, though surface high pressure building back in this weekend should bring a return to more typical trades. Another series of upper troughs/surface cold fronts dive south next week again disrupting the trades. The guidance shows better agreement that an upper low may cut off from the trough around Wednesday and drop southward next week well to the east of Hawaii. Regardless of continued strength/timing differences in individual model runs, this feature should have little if any influence on Hawaii in terms of precipitation. The models continue to advertise below average precipitable water values over much of the state well into next week. This keeps the region quite dry through the next week, with the northwestern islands seeing the best potential for any land/sea breeze influence due to cold fronts passing north or weakening over the northernmost islands.
