Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 250 AM EST Sat Jan 29 2022 Valid 00Z Sun Jan 30 2022 - 00Z Sun Feb 06 2022 Winds should become light and shift out of the southeast on Sunday ahead of an upper trough/surface front moving north of the state. This may bring a possible slight increase for light showers across the northernmost islands this weekend. Guidance continues to show potential for an upper low to cut off from the trough around early to mid next week, and weaken northeast of Hawaii by Thursday or Friday. However, this feature appears to have little if any influence on Hawaii in terms of precipitation due to below average precipitable water values over much of the state well into next week. This should keep much of the region quite dry over the next week. Light and variable winds should continue across Hawaii for several days as a couple of cold fronts pass well to the north. A more typical trade wind pattern should return by next weekend though as surface high pressure tries to build back in to the northeast of the islands. Santorelli
