Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 230 AM EST Sat Feb 5 2022 Valid 00Z Sun Feb 6 2022 - 00Z Sun Feb 13 2022 The western edge of the mid-latitude high will be situated north of Hawaii with a col in the ridge over the northwestern most Islands. Multiple storm systems passing across the North Pacific will result in cold fronts getting close to the western Islands, but not likely making more southeastward progress based on the latest GEFS/ECENS ensemble means. Meanwhile, a broad upper level trough is likely to develop east of the Big Island early next week, and this feature should gradually track east and away from the state. In terms of sensible weather, expect generally east-northeast trades on the order of 15-25 mph through about mid-week, except more of a southeasterly component from Maui and points northwestward where there will be more inflow towards the stalling fronts. The pressure gradient relaxes some by the end of the week and winds become a bit lighter overall. Rainfall chances will likely be a little higher on Monday with the proximity of the upper trough, but most other days should have the typical trade wind enhanced showers. Hamrick
