Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 303 AM EST Thu Mar 03 2022 Valid 00Z Fri Mar 04 2022 - 00Z Fri Mar 11 2022 A developing subtropical occluded cyclone is currently lifting further away well north of Hawaii. Showers associated with the trailing cold front are moving away to the east of the Big Island. Relatively weak trade winds will resume with typical terrain-enhanced localized showers through the end of this week. A cold front dipping toward Hawaii early next week will likely shift wind directions to more east-southeast. The ECMWF brings an increasing chance of heavy showers for the northwestern portion of the island chain by Tuesday with the passage of the front. On the other hand, the GFS only increases the chance of rain there slightly. Thereafter, the ECMWF keeps a decent amount of moisture across the western islands as the front becomes stationary and weakens with time. This is in contrast with the drier GFS given a less-defined front moving through Hawaii into midweek next week. Kong
