Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 147 AM EDT Wed Mar 16 2022 Valid 00Z Thu Mar 17 2022 - 00Z Thu Mar 24 2022 Upper level ridging will be in place over the Hawaii domain through the end of the week and into Saturday, before a large scale trough builds in north of the state for the beginning of next week. At the surface, the subtropical surface high will remained anchored in place near 35 degrees north, and this will break down as a col develops within the ridge across the western Islands by Saturday, and a trailing cold front from the North Pacific system will likely reach the central and northwestern Islands by Monday based on the latest GEFS and ECENS means. Steady easterly trades through Saturday will support enhanced showers across the typically favored terrain, mainly across the Big Island. The winds veer to the southeast as the front approaches Sunday and into Monday, and northeasterly flow behind the boundary for early next week along with slightly cooler temperatures. Rain chances will also increase for the central and western Islands ahead of the front, although nothing major is currently expected. Hamrick
