Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 341 AM EDT Fri Mar 18 2022 Valid 00Z Sat Mar 19 2022 - 00Z Sat Mar 26 2022 Mainly quiet weather is forecast for Hawaii through the end of the week, with low amplitude upper level ridging overhead leading to near to below average moisture/precipitable water values and fronts dissipating well north of the islands. By early next week, however, an upper trough is forecast over the Pacific extending into Hawaii. This is forecast to push a cold front through the northwestern islands by around Tuesday and stall. This could provide a focus for rain as moisture increases to above average along the front, with showers especially for windward and north facing slopes, although nothing major is currently expected. Behind the front, a reasonably strong surface high is expected to build north of Hawaii, leading to increasingly breezy easterly trades (more northeasterly for the northwestern islands) by midweek and beyond.
