Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 336 AM EDT Mon Mar 21 2022 Valid 00Z Tue Mar 22 2022 - 00Z Tue Mar 29 2022 The southern end of an upper-level trough in the Pacific will push a cold front near Kauai and possibly across before stalling around Tuesday. As the front approaches, it will provide a focus for rain as moisture/precipitable water values increase to above average along the front. Widespread showers are forecast beginning late Monday into Wednesday especially for windward and north facing slopes, but potentially reaching leeward areas as well in Kauai and perhaps Oahu. Meanwhile ahead of the front, winds are likely to lighten across the state and allow for a sea breeze pattern for the southeastern islands initially. This is likely to change midweek onward, as increasingly breezy trades form as a reasonably strong surface high is expected to build north of Hawaii. This could be a relatively wet trade wind pattern for the state as moisture may linger even after the front dissipates. Showers particularly for windward areas are possible with this flow regime and as a weak upper low near the state could enhance instability. By the weekend, generally quieter weather is likely as ridging aloft moves in. Tate
