Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 401 AM EDT Wed Mar 23 2022 Valid 00Z Thu Mar 24 2022 - 00Z Thu Mar 31 2022 A stationary front is currently stalled over Kauai, providing convergence in a rather moist environment with some instability in place due to an upper trough aloft. This has led to widespread showers there, which could remain over the next several hours. Though the front will dissipate over the next day, its remnant moisture could linger there and sink slowly southward later in the week. A reasonably strong surface high is expected to build north of Hawaii and cause breezy trades, and windward/mountain showers are possible in this moist pattern. A period of upper ridging over the weekend should weaken trades somewhat. By next Monday-Tuesday, another upper trough is forecast over the state, and recent model runs show enhanced moisture coming in from the south. This could increase shower activity but there is uncertainty in the details at this point. Tate
