Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 150 AM EDT Tue Apr 19 2022 Valid 00Z Wed Apr 20 2022 - 00Z Wed Apr 27 2022 A col within the upper level subtropical ridge will be in place across Hawaii through most of the week, and then the ridge builds in from the east over the weekend based on the latest ensemble means. At the surface, a high will slide eastward between 30-35 degrees north, and thus maintain steady trades from the east-northeast to the east-southeast for much of the forecast period. An upper level and inverted surface trough may approach the far northwestern Islands by early next weekend, by the latest model guidance suggests it should not make much eastward progress. In terms of precipitation, improving weather can be expected compared to this past weekend, with mainly terrain enhanced showers for the typical eastern locations on the Big Island and Maui, and lighter showers across the northwestern Islands. No major events are appearing on the horizon for the upcoming week, with the effects of the trough to the northwest keeping significant impacts well away from the state. Hamrick
