Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 403 AM EDT Sat Apr 23 2022 Valid 00Z Sun Apr 24 2022 - 00Z Sun May 01 2022 Surface high pressure in place to the northeast of Hawaii over the next couple of days and additional high pressure moving eastward to the north of the state early next week will keep a breezy easterly trade wind pattern in place. Windward and mountain/mauka showers are most common in this wind regime, and while moisture (precipitable water) values are above normal, a capping inversion should not allow for widespread heavy rain. A drier trade wind pattern is forecast for early next week as moisture levels return to near normal. By around midweek, a weakness in the subtropical ridge could lead to a period of weaker trades. Moisture levels may increase by the latter part of next week with potential for a weaker capping inversion as well given modest troughing aloft, but there is still considerable uncertainty with the details of the pattern and the impacts on sensible weather at this point.
