Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 421 AM EDT Wed Apr 27 2022 Valid 00Z Thu Apr 28 2022 - 00Z Thu May 05 2022 A slight weakness in the subtropical ridge to the north of Hawaii should weaken trade winds somewhat over the next few days, but generally moderate to locally breezy trades are still expected, along with some windward and mountain showers. Upper troughing aloft looks to come into Hawaii for the latter part of the week and could last into early next week, providing added instability for vertical cloud development and showers. Meanwhile, high pressure will rebuild to the north and restrengthen trade winds while model guidance continues to show a trend for increasing precipitable water values. All this combined will lead to a trend for stronger and wetter trades for the weekend into early next week. Models do vary somewhat as to the timing of the highest moisture anomalies--with some increase late this week but potentially higher values sometime in the Sunday-Tuesday range. This will continue to be monitored to refine the timing as well as placement details. Moisture levels look to drop again by the middle of next week. Tate
