Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 307 AM EDT Mon May 02 2022 Valid 00Z Tue May 03 2022 - 00Z Tue May 10 2022 Models and ensembles reasonably agree that moderate to locally breezy mean trades will prevail this week as high pressure bridges to the north of the state. Meanwhile, mean upper troughing over the state should enhance instability and may prove slow to dislodge. This pattern will favor showers over windward and mountain areas, but with potential for some spillage into leeward areas. A guidance signal for some increase in moisture over the next few days seems supported by blended precipitation water satellite loops that show a deeper moisture axis just south of the state. There is also some threat for wintry weather in this pattern over higher elevations of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea where there is already a Winter Weather Advisory in effect. Drier trades are expected into the weekend. Overall, predictability and continuity overall seem better than average for this forecast period. Schichtel
